Disneyland Historical Documents/Photos - 1955 thru 1970 (11/6/08) : Had the chance to head off to Downtown Anaheim this afternoon, and did some serious research, both at the Main Anaheim Library, and the Heritage Room at the Museo. While a lot of the info does focus on the fact that Disneyland officially celebrated opening day as July 18th, 1955 when Walt Disney was alive. I have a Disneyland Press Release from July, 1967 showing that Opening day was July 18th (and Walt Disney passed on in 1966).

And while there is a lot in regards to opening day, there is a lot of other fun stuff!

And yes, July 17th is STILL an important day, as the 1967 Press Release calls it "Dedication Day".

BOTH days should be celebrated!

A Plasma Screen TV has been added to Tarzan's Treehouse

Interesting to note, this is the Tomorrowland RR Station, and the Railroad Tie bars are generic, unlike the Main Street Station that have the "Disneyland LA" stamped on them

DISNEY PARKS WELCOME TWO-BILLIONTH GUEST -- Emmalee Mason, 12, of Colorado Springs, Colorado, became the honorary two-billionth guest to ever visit a Disney Park just after 9:00am today at Disneyland in California. To celebrate this milestone, Emmalee, along with Mickey Mouse, took her first-ever roller coaster ride on the world's first-ever tubular steel roller coaster, the Matterhorn. Earlier she was presented with a giant golden "Key to the Kingdoms" and a lifetime pass to all 11 Disney Parks at the five Disney Resorts in Florida, Japan, France and Hong Kong, in addition to Disneyland Resort in Southern California. © Disney Enterprises/Scott Brinegar
